The (inaugural π) Dabbling: 09-16 July 2025
Published about 1 month agoΒ β’Β 7 min read
Howdy, Dabblers!β β*sharp inhale* Holy-sheeeeet-welcome-to-the-very-first-issue-of-The-Dabbling-I'm-freakin'-stoked-you're-heeeere! β Before we get stuck into what to expect weekly from The Dabbling, allow me (well, you can't stop me) to take a moment to explain why I'm creating a free neighbourhood newsletter, all about hobbies, interests, and being a (terrible(-ly awesome)) beginner, right here in Εtautahi Christchurch...
(If you've read your welcome email, this part will be familiar - don't tell me you've never copy/pasta'd)
1. As a nudge for us to try ("badly") the things we've "always wanted to" (but clearly haven't made a priority, even with the most grown-up money and freewill we've ever had)β 2. To connect with and support local businesses, "doer"s, and other creatives π€π€ (heyyy, new friends!)β 3. To experience this beautiful city through DOING πͺ (we have SO MUCH rad stuff and SO MANY rad people here)β ...and a secret hope that you light a match to your stale career, to master the art of miniature, cat-shaped topiaries?!
The guiding principle is simple - β¨ FOLLOW THE EXCITEMENT β¨
β ..."But can't we just follow the existing council pages and FB events to find out what's on"?β Of course! But this curated publication aims to be more interactive (doing vs viewing), more niche (the hyperist of all fixations), more intimate (like, actual opportunities to make new friends), and less "ah forkballs! I wanted to try that, but it got lost in the doom-scroll and was 2 weekends ago..."
Not tooo bad! I'd say there's definitely opportunities for fresh air - get out there! βFind the full forecast at Metservice β

Hiii Dabblers! It's my birthday week! And what better way to celebrate than getting my hair did (by the lovely β¨Hannahβ¨ from Kitche), then taking the (b)day off to partake in a Kintsugi workshop, and then shmoozing [read: stuffing food in my face and avoiding eye contact, so no-one talks to me] at the ArchiPro Home Design evening. Plus, Go Green and beginning to organise my β¨entire existenceβ¨, ready to move π¬ I'm really looking forward to creating a space to permanently set up my sewing...
Kia Ora Dabblers! Hope your week's been copacetic! Please do smash the reply button and tell me what you've been working on/dreaming about/having fun with/learning this week, I ADORE chatting with you! Maybe my most spendy hobby yet, I bought a whole heckin' house π (well, tbf, I'll probably own the toilet and maybe 1/6 of the kitchen, but it's a start...!? I'm also schemin'... If you'd be interested in being a secret society member of a separate publication for DIY/interiors/local contractor...
Aloha Dabblers,A bit of a quieter week, particularly event-wise, this week (a fair bit of slower paced stuff)...howeverrrr, we are working on an events calendar (a mixture of regular and once-off/limited time events, still all hobby/interest related), so you can forward plan, refer back to, share, and click the direct links to book/get more info, without getting lost in the weeds. LOOK OUT FOR IT NEXT WEEK!(It will be a paid feature in future, but you'll get to enjoy it for free for a while...
