Birthday books πŸ“š, Country fiestas πŸ—Ύ and Sculptural πŸ—ΏFesty’s - celebrations abound πŸ₯³

G'day Dabblers!

Have we adjusted to daylight saving, yet?! (pets and kids, not so much 😬)
The good news is it's the signal for planning
(and doing, obvs) more outdoor hobbies (or air-conned ones, if that's more your speed)!

I donned my 'domestic goddess' cloak last weekend- used a lawnmower for the first time ever, finally got some picture frames painted** and some artworks up (some had been stashed for 5+ years πŸ₯Ί), and mended some curtains.

6 lessons learnt thoughts from mowing lawns for the first time in my life;
- Doing them in the hottest part of the day...in trackpants...is silly. Don't be silly.
- Shorts are also problematic
(bare, itchy legs). I don't have a resolution here.
- Electric/batteries have changed the game
(and it's, dare I say it, fun?! (The novelty will absolutely wear off shortly, don't worry)).
- Also, check your batteries...
(unless you like half-done berms).
- I can see why it'd be therapeutic. Not for me, but some people swear by it.

-
Should have made a daisy chain first.

πŸ† Dabble-o-meter: 2.5/7 - can't believe I have to do this every other week for the rest of my homeowner-life... Can't see it being my "new obsession" *adds to "outsource that shi-" list*.

A friend recently mentioned planting herbs as ground cover and making a delicious-smelling path when walked on, which sounds blimmin amazing - have you done this? Any tips?!

** Shout out to ✨Aalto Paint✨ who have this stunner of a colour- Ultramarine Blue (their version of "Klein Blue").

While the majority of their palette has muted undertones (that all play beautifully together, by the way), this one stuck out to me for obvious reasons, and I'm seriously considering painting the entire hallway in it... (3-4 coats, but it would be so worth it 🀩)
If you're artistically inclined, you'll appreciate how they create their colours- by layering premium coloured pigments- making it impossible for standard paint shops to colour match. Not to mention being the dreamiest matte-ist of matte interior finishes (and still washable, apparently) 😍
Go visit them on Fitzgerald Ave and tell 'em I sent you πŸ’™

Enough about me though, let's see what's going on this week! Speaking of arty-farty goodness, there's lots going on in and around the Arts Centre, so if you hang around there, you'll surely dabble in something!

C.x ✨

⛳️ Needing a full set of clubs to head along to the Russley social club days?

πŸ“š Imagine a (pretty much) full library of Nat Geo books, spanning 1960s-2013!? (might need to build a library for the library...). Imagine no more.

πŸ‘· This drop saw would be very handy to build a library...

πŸ›‹ And to really round it out, how about a container-load of furniture and lighting?

✨CWEA✨ (Canterbury Workers' Educational Association) started in 1915 as a way for the 'working class' to access University-level education (previously only accessible by wealthy families and individuals).

"Many Cantabrians took advantage of this to change professions or improve their careers. Over time, as university education became accessible to more people, our focus changed to improving quality of life through life-long learning. The courses we offered changed too, becoming less academic, shorter, and more interest-based. We expanded our arts, music, and dance offerings".
πŸ‘‰ This is one of our main drivers for this newsletter - to offer you inspiration and courage to try something new, and hopefully spur you into getting paid (well) for something you love, or at the very least, improve your quality of life do something farking fun πŸ’–

No judgement here if this week’s dabbling looks like curling up in a blanket fort and watching Big Brother re-runs (was that the OG reality TV show? Or what came before that?) Stay toasty! 🍿

'Ello Dabblers! A swift one for you this week, due to the fact that we were in the weeds (literally) doing actual manual labour and lost track of days πŸ˜… Please do hit reply and tell us what you got up to, or if you honoured the "absolutely nothing" task! This week, aside from the obvious πŸŽƒ there are a bunch of festivals on - films, hip hop, Latin celebrations... Heaps of opportunity to get out there and explore something you wouldn't usually say yes to πŸ–€ C.x ✨ THIS WEEK'S EXCUSES TO PUT ON...

Bonjour Dabblers! Happy almost-long weekend?! Lots of things happening that fall under "the (wider) arts" umbrella, a BUNCH of stuff happening in the coming days, and a (semi-deliberate) minimal amount on Mon/Tue, so you can recoup and explore your own things (or lack of things) πŸ’— There were murmurs about having more events (and so choice) at a glance, so we're rolling with this quick-fire format again this week (plus there's so much on, it's way too hard to narrow down the cool stuff)!
